Gum Disease

We believe your overall health and wellness begins in your mouth.

Regular dental check-ups, proper brushing twice a day and flossing will not only improve your oral health but prevent or help identify more serious issues such as gum disease.

Gum disease (also known as periodontal disease) is often painless and can easily go undetected without regular dental check-ups. If left untreated it can eventually lead to serious issues including tooth loss and infections. Gum disease can be treated but is best managed if diagnosed early.

Symptoms of gum disease

Gum disease is often painless and the signs are often subtle. Symptoms may include:

  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Bleeding when you floss or brush
  • Loose teeth or separation between teeth
  • Continuous bad breath
  • Gums that pull away from your teeth
  • Change in how your teeth sit together when you bite

Oral health and the condition of your gums are essential to general health and wellbeing at every stage of life. The best prevention is regular visits to your dentist or hygienist to identify gum disease as early as possible.

Have Questions?

The cost of treating gum disease ranges depending on the stage and severity of the disease. It is important to take care of your oral health to help prevent gum disease occurring. That’s why it is essential to visit the dentist regularly for a check-up and clean.

Yes. It all comes down to taking care of your oral health, with a combination of at-home dental care and building a regular relationship with your dentist or dental hygienist.

We recommend daily healthy habits and regular visits to the dentist. For a healthy smile and overall good oral health:

  • Practice good oral hygiene habits at home including brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day
  • Book routine hygiene & check-up visits with a dentist or dental hygienist ideally every 6 months or as advised by your dentist

Early stages of gum disease are reversible with a good oral care routine and regular visits to the dentist. To help prevent gum disease you should brush twice daily, floss daily and go for regular dental check-ups. In more advanced cases treatment may involve more complex procedures and your dentist will help explain this for you.

Gum disease is often painless which makes it easy to go undetected.  Your dentist can more easily identify any symptoms and recommend the best treatments.  If you are experiencing bleeding, swelling, loose teeth or gum pain we suggest you visit a dentist as soon as possible.

Gum disease is the inflammation of the gums that can go on to destroy the bone surrounding your teeth. Gum disease can be identified and treated through early diagnosis and regular dental checks, or in more severe cases a referral to a periodontist may be necessary.
